In modern opera, which i am talking about because we live in the now, it is unheard of. I know that it would freak me out more than this video did, sure it might be an aquired taste, but my prediction is that it wouldn't go over well. Im saying the trait is rare and has potential value. But as it stands, nobody with a conventional taste in opera would stand for this. I'd like to save my judgment, but i cant see it happening any time soon, from a finacial and practical standpoint.

Actually, there are... I've heard at least one old recording of a castrato which you could probably find if you're interested, and there are also modern countertenors you could listen to. (And no special trip was required, but thank you anyway).
My point was that, if Vitas decided to move from popera to real opera, he would be taken very seriously and probably be in great demand. I'm genuinely surprised that an opera fan would consider a trait considered so valuable in opera to be "unnatural".

Has anyone ever considered the song is an analogy for the Angel of Death who watches over people from generation to generation to guide them to God at the end of their days? Or even an analogy of the legacy of our ancestors which carries the love of God from generation to generation? Why see "Dark" as bad - he ascends into Light. While I agree with you that most of Vitas's material is not opera, you are otherwise incorrect. Male sopranos were once so highly revered in opera that men were castrated in order to retain their high voices. In modern times countertenor roles are rare and it's more usual for women to play the few male roles which require a soprano voice, but there is a growing trend for men to take these roles again. :)

You're completely entitled not to find this style of singing to your taste, but I must say I disagree with you that it is unheard of (as there are operas running which feature male soprano roles) and that no conventional opera fans would tolerate it, as it's something with a long and respectable operatic history... though I'm sure that many would also find it not to their personal taste. :)
