To my opinion Varvara is one of the most underestimated contemporary singers. Her sound is a mix of all kind of ethnic music styles and influences and has a special flavour that is unique.

Although I don't understand Russian, I can highly appreciate her music. If she would sing more songs in English, she might become as famous as e.g. Madonna, Delta Goodrem, Dido etc.

well the best know traditional form comes from Tuva by other parts of Russia(Altai,Chukchi Peninsula,Bashkortostan ),Mongolia and Tibet and different forms. Yes iI really like those bands music. You have interesting ethical background. I am Kuban cossack I come from southern russia we are mixture of Slavic and Iranian culture. We have own race,government , school, and dialect of Russian.

I do not think that killing of native cultures is defined only by English, or even European Christian cultures. There have always been examples of dominant cultures taking over all throughout the world including Native Americans, Islamic cultures, African nations, and Asians. I do believe that disappearance of cultures is a real problem that needs attention, but the Europeans are not the only ones to blame.

True. My grandmother is from Siberia, she's half Chuvash (a Turkic-Tatar nationality) so that's how I know quite a lot about Siberia or Russia for that matter.
If I'm correct, throat singing mostly originated from Tuva. Ever heard of bands like Huun Huur Tu or Yat Kha? These are two Tuvan throat singing bands. Whenever I listen to them I find myself thinking of Siberian Shamans, the wild nature and all.

Thanks for posting this video! Varvara is wonderful. She's the best and most creative Russian singer I've ever heard, with musical influences from all over the world. But could someone tell me where I can find the English translation of the lyrics of "Otpusti menya reka"?
