The Move - Fire Brigade

I still think the bloke on the right in the hat is Mike Smash of Harry Enfields Smashie and Nicey fame hahahaha

bentnosewp,
that's nice...No fighting did you say?.and that's the response I get because i don't agree with you.

As I thought..you're obnoxious.

Roys playing a bass too Its a Fender Bass VI

There were a plenty of personalities
in the early Move.
After that it changed more and more
a group which stayed only in a studio.

Well i think it was the no-touring (which also hut The Kinks in the 60s) and perhaps that they were "Too British". Same thing happened to Pul recently...radio programmers thought they were so English, yanks couldnt relate.

(I'm American BTW)

ugly motherfuckers.

The Move....best singles band ever!! Unless you know different..............??

does anyone consider the drums in this song difficult??

i certainly don't

I wish it could be christmas everyday!!!

Who Is Dave Dee???

too british? really

americans loved all things brit in the 60s and 70s

weird

and they didnt tour?

Love Roy's Knights Templar shirt! I was so very very young when I saw this on totps.... around the time I was watching Bill & Ben the flowerpot men. Listening back now I'm more impressed than ever before with the novel Beach Boy type siren sound in the backing vocals, and the Eddie Cochrane guitar riff. Super super stuff! And to think these guys came from the same time and turf as Black Sabbath!!! Weird weird! Thanks for the memories.

Perfect pop.
Woody's so sadly overlooked sometimes it's criminal.

This is their Top Of The Pops Performance from 1968, mimed of course. Last song which features Ace Kefford on bass before The Move released a couple of singles that flopped and first song where Roy sings the lead. Most of these Top Of The Pops performances from the sixties were recorded over in the seventies due to high cost of film at the time, shame. What an era of talent!!

I've never heard of them. Did they play in a lock-up in Hackney to a couple of old men and a mangy dog. The Move, Wizard and Roy Wood were successful chart artists.

I hated them then and still do. What crap. Bubblegum at it's worst.

Please tell me what lip singing is.
I'll go out on a limb here and say it's like lip synching lol

Carl Wayne forever......

This Is Live

It was said at the time that there were The Beatles, The Stones, and The Move. Enough said. You can lump them in with The Kinks and The Small Faces, but Hermans Hermits and Dave Dee? Please! Roy Wood is a genius.

Seems to be a live performance....

anoyone know the track by these that has the words cherry blossom clinic in it?

fuck you

Couldn't have been too far from when Ace Kefford left the band.

roy is this really you? you are a true legend. i saw you perform at the odeon, newcastle upon tyne back in 1974 with wizard. was in front row. a truly memorable evening. thank you for the music.

the move were great

the move what a great band

Is the bassist playing a Fender Precision bass with the upper cutaway sawn off?

Roy Wood...superb. Move, ELO, Wizzard...terrific stuff.

I have a lot of Move recordings since about 25 years ago, and I always found them interesting and odd. certainly very different from anything heard in the US. Aa a criticism, however, I can see that some of the songs are annoyingly cute and also a lot of the lyrics really stretch to be unusual, not always with good aesthetic results.

no fighting. they are ugly do you agree?

wouldn't it be "learn to type english"? you fucking tool HAHAHA I WIN AGAIN!

Love this song. Great pop melody!

Thanks.

never get tired of the Move, let their music live forever

Simply awesome band. I'm 29 and I feel like i've known their music all my life (in a way I have of course)!

Respect.

Perhaps it is more commonly called "lip synching" but isnt't "lip singing" just as accurate since we are simply making up a term?
In other words the lips move but no sound comes out. No air is moved by the diapram to the resonators. :-$

I grew up in the 60s and I can assure you there were no punk bands about. It was all flower power and peace and love.

Is that trevor Burton making all the funny faces?

So how can you make your original comment if you don't know about these bands? Punk didn't start in 1976 i'm afraid...try ten years earlier.
The Move are a great band i agree.

the most fascinating thing about the move is how they got faamous in the 60s-thanks to their manager Tony Segunda, who gave them their break. the move were notorious for stunts: donning gangasters' outfits, trashing Tv sets and signing their contract on the bared back of an almost nude model. Carl has ackonwledged the importance of the manager in their success.

when thay had that hit out a lot of people thaught the move were a punk band

Agreed, TOTP2 is spoilt by Steve Wright.

who's the guy with the twang?

What in 1968? You're about 10 years too early mate.

no way is this a live performance

It is Ace.

they were my favorites in the end of sixties
such a beautiful voices
best hippy look
they make a fire in Marquee,then interdit,forbiden
live they were cazy as arthur brown they broke tv with axe
a song full of joy

wish we had bands like this now!

Were they all wearing wigs :-)

The lead Singer is doing a very convincing job of 'Playing' the Guitar :-) not ;-)

Life is mysterious.
So are the names of the great bands usually.
Any idea what the Move really means ?
There are certainly hundreds of versions.

should have been enormous but had a crap stupid manager.
Carl Wayne r.i.p

That would be guitarist Trevor Burton who changed to the bass after the blonde dude next to him, Ace Kelford, left the band due to an acid induced nervous breakdown (like Syd Barrett of Floyd, like Peter Green of Mac, and the list goes on).

No, not necessarily, I assume you speak the same way as you type..so therefore " learn to type English " is quite an acceptable thing to type/say.

But...if it makes you happy, we'll say you win , or should that be..I'll " type " you win ?

Nah, that'd be Ace "The Face" Kefford, greatest bass player ever

It's called Cherry Blossom Clinic actually...

How can you possibly say Dave Dee who did not even sell 1 record in the states is better than the Move..Nothing innovative with them at all. DO YA Hello Suzy are classics .

Great song - and great look, very "punk".

roy wood a pop mastermind

I could care less what you think. Your responses to my repeated disrespect only validates how upset I'm making you.

Great song - has anyone got Angel Fingers on vid for you tube?

bentnosewp..nice intelligent comment...did you get your bent nose through being obnoxious ??

roy wood looks like david cross in this.

I think the real Roy Wood spell Wizzard with two zeds.

Do you know your rock history?? "Garage/Punk bands" from the mid 60's didn't have Craig David in them ...maybe you wanna try and open your ears.

What's Ringo Starr doing on the left...

Ace Kefford and all. Woody rules!!!

she can set the place on fire...
get the fire brigade--absolutely great lyrics
what a performance-love the look and gesture

Excellent.

I'm falling in love with The Move.

I got a remastered version of their debut album for Xmas and I've been listening to it in the car for the last week. I think because the sun has been out that it's helping- perfect sunshine pop music. Love it!!

By the way- the bass line in this song sounds awesome on the 'stereo' remaster (disc 2)

I do apologise..I meant to type.." learn to speak English " Is quite an acceptable thing to say.

Actually he does play the guitar there, very well actually. Watched them live last night. :)

Rockin Roy !!! . herman's hermits/dave dee!! not in the same class as Roy but they all have a place in the history of music .(even Bros)sorry !!.

great band, great video.

which prick writes the stupid captions and does the moronic voice-overs on TOTP2 clips ?

I LOVE this song

Roy Wood - One Of The Greatest Artists/Song Writers Ever Along With Cat Stevens!
Mhm, Anyone Got A Bass Tab for this please?? And For Blackberry way? x

fuck off stick to ya herman hermits records in a dark soundproofed room and the world will be a better place!

Rockin' Roy - LEGEND

Ace Kefford is/was THE man! His final 45 w/ The Move!

Man its hard to believe they morphed into ELO

thats true!

I knew Cheap Trick was REALLY influenced by the Move, but knew nothing about them. My God, when I discovered this song about a year ago, I was blown away. I'm 44- Iknow it all. Weren't they kind of hated in England? why? They took everything that was really good about british pop rock and and left out the fat.

Yep - I agree, TOTP2 is totally spoilt by Steve Wright. I remember when Johnnie Walker used to do it - it was excellent then!

What about The Seeds, The Electric Prunes, Count Five,The Castaways etc? It wasn't all peace and love was it?

I would not let a moron like you upset me in the slightest..so do carry on if it makes you happy.

By the way..the phrase should be...I could NOT care less...learn to speak English.

Kinks, Small Faces, Herman's Hemits,Dave Dee etc, OK. But the Moove? They were a joke then and a band who have not stood the test of time.

Oh ! borski67, I'm so agree with you !!!

i totally agree. much overlooked by the rock cognesti but what the fuck do they know!

This is the craest song ive ever heard

This song inspired Paul Stanley of KISS to write their hit "Firehouse"

thank you for posting this info. i wasn't aware of how TTOP worked. we had absolutely zero information about that stuff enen in the 70s when so-called 'journalists' should have been passing that stuff on to us,,

which one is Ace? and wheres the bass?

they only toured in the states once, I believe, and I think even that was an opening slot, Hendrix maybe? Wood and Burton sang on "Axis Bold As Love".

I remember hearing "Cherry Blossonm Clinic" and "Fire Brigade" a lot in the 70s on "hip" FM stations, but they were mainly known for being "the band that turned into ELO".

send for the fire brigade ive burnt my toast

Love Roy with that 6 string bass...Wonder if he still has it.

the move were at their height when i had just started school yet i loved their music, i know it is nostalgia but i still think their music holds up really well-albeit as an example of late 60's psychadelia.
i still listen to them on their greatest hits cd, available at all great music stores-not 'arf!

LEGEND

Yes, they were an incredibly talented yet rather underrated/unsung group, because everyone 45 and upwards will have heard at least a couple of their songs growing up yet if you mention to many of them "The Move" the chances are you will get a blank expression, they know the songs but don't know the singers.

Where see you Ringo Starr??? It's Bev Beven on drumms!

Couple of flops and that was all??
Their next single after this was a flop, but then they made Blackberry Way which was their only UK to number 1. Trevor Burton then left, complaining they were too 'pop', but they went on to have more hits. Curly got to 12 with Rick Price on bass. Carl Wayne then left and was replaced by Jeff Lynne with whom they had 3 more top ten hits (Brontosaurus, Tonight and California Man) which were released to finance the ELO project. (What became of them??)

Bevan looks like he's 12 hahaha Awesome

Re; dball111

My wife "Diane Ball" suggested I play this track in rock'n roll solo show in club and publand.

It was her favorite tune whilst doing her A Levels in 68.

She gave it a "5" star rating, and I must admit after hearing it several times, I tend to agree, but what a co-incidence the name dball left the last comment.

Whoever you are dball111, you have great taste...

Steve Ball.

HI THERE-
ACE KEFFORD LEAVES THE BAND IN APRIL 1968 SHOTLY AFTER THE RELEASE OF THE MOVE`S 1st ALBUM "MOVE".

is that what does the Eddie Cochran-type riff on the record?

ø„¸¸„ø¤º°¨¸„ø¤º°¨ post to 3 other vids
¨°º¤ø„¸ Copy „ø¤º°¨ press F5 twice
¸„ø¤º°¨Paste ``°º¤ø„¸ OK
¸„ø¤º°¨¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º look at ur backgroud
amazing!! :)

I bloody love it.Thanks so much for the post.

Who play bass on this vidoe? Is it Ace?

I think these songs are brillaint - sophisticated, yet unpretentious - unlike Oasis, Coldplay, Gene, Verve, Kaiser Chieifs, all that Brit Pop shite from the mid 90's to now

Yes, great. But if it were only "OK", it would still be way better than the crap today anyway.

Well the same prick that heads "Steve Wright in the afternoon" on radio 2!

brilliant!! bettere than the crap today

Lead singer looks like a medieval king...

i know that i heard the move a few times when i was a kid, i just find it strange that they never had big hits in the states

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick, and Tich. That's the name of the band. Check them out on UTube

You think Dave Dee and H hermits have stood the test of time??
Dream On !
Roy Wood is a musical genius,as is Jeff Lynne.

Go and play with yer Zabadak !!
Oh and..No Milk Today..Thankyou.

Great song, Fantastic middle eight.
Thanks

I'll go out on a limb here and say that they are lip singing the song. Roy does a great mug for the camera.

Nice song. :-)# Way before I was born, still I like it.

I got a lift once with a man who was a mate of the drummer of the move. That is my lame to fame.

One of the best records in the 60s. I love this band. The guitarist is the amazing Trevor Burton, bass is by the god-like icon legend Ace Kefford, and the (soon to be solo and famous) Roy Wood, looking like Free's Andy Fraser here, sings this. Drums by soon to be ELO kit master Bev Bevan. The late Carl Wayne singing the tight harmonies here.nIf yer not into The Move, you've missed Rock N Roll at it's best. Sorry for ya. This it top! Loving it. Thanx for posting!

that would be Rockin' Roy Wood

could be a tribute to fireman sam

Re the queries as to whether they're playing live or not: as this was Top Of The Pops, they'd have been singing live, but miming the backing, which was pre-recorded. BBC used to try to pretend the whole thing was live. Then one fine day, they had Jimi Hendrix set to launch into Purple Haze ... and the pre-recorded backing track that started to play was "House That Jack Built" by the Alan Price Set!! Our Jimi allegedly stood there confused, muttering "don't know that one, man".

cool!! gotta love those Fender bass VI!!

Rob

From a purely technical songwriting perpective this has got to be a song with one of the cleverest lyric ever written. It relates the love for a woman to the fire service. Incredible!!! If I'd not heard this I would not have believed these could be married. Well done Roy Wood. Quite brilliant.

this song was written about my nan. she was wearing bright red when he met her, and he said to her that he was going to write his next song about her.

Here here Roy Woods more talented than Brian Wilson and Jeff Lynne on the same plain as Lennon!

Wow! What a six note intro!! What childhood memories!!! So far as the sixties go, this song is way off the radar. I heard this song on the radio way back when we couldn't afford a telly. Looking at it now I still love it!! You gotta love that Rockabilly guitar hook at the end of the refrain. Classic stuff dudes!!!

The equality of the band members had gone. Roy Wood did not only compose
all their hits but he also sings the lead.

What an assemblage of mod talent! Brilliant. One of my favourite Move songs.

No I don't, I just think the hairstyles and facial hair didn't do them any favours, but they were the styles of that time.

האם זהו המקור לנעימת סקוטרמן האגדית?

it is really you roy? o my god!

My father was right. I should not have been influenced by this when I was 13. Now I can see his concern

Herman`s Hermits, Dave Dee?,just teeny pop music, and uncomparable with the Move, who could really play!

have a look at ballroom blitz by the sweet and then see which is the maddest song ;-}

Baby baby light my fire

Yes it's called Cherry Blossom Clinic, I've found it on compilation.

paul stanley of kiss has said that he got the idea for kiss' "firehouse" from this song.

another of my childhood singles!!

shut up ass hole...They're great

ya....for some reason...they just didnt get alot of play in the states

This song is annoyingly catchy as I found out, but why do I always say Fire Brigade with a welsh accent :D

who would have thought roy wood would have gone so far cheers roy .and thanks for putting video on youtube
